Provide customer support and technical issue resolution via e-mail and phone primarily. Visit customers to assist with technical service and problem-solving. Handle internal requests for technical information on product data sheets and regulatory compliance documentation. Maintain a working laboratory. Keeping test instruments and process equipment in running order and within calibration. Maintaining up to date materials in inventory, in compliance with company regulations. Conduct laboratory work to support current and new product/applications development and technical service work related to thermoset, thermoplastic polymers, water and solvent based paint compositions. B.S. or M.S. degree in Chemistry, Chemical or Materials Science and Engineering. 2-5 years of relevant experience in application or product development for the plastics, composites and/or the construction products markets. Skilled in basic inorganic and organic materials characterization techniques. Specific knowledge and hands on experience in ceramics and glasses is a plus. Able to develop key materials properties to use in designing laboratory, pilot and production scale processes. Make useful suggestions and independent decisions on assigned projects. Subject to standardization practices and procedures which permit variations in both work sequence and work routine. Supervision provides specific direction on assigned projects and screens assignments for difficulties. Takes charge of assigned projects with minimal supervision. Routinely document results of experiments through formal technical reports or other established formats for distribution primarily within the technical group. May make verbal presentations on assigned projects to appropriate audiences. Travel up to 25%.
